METSÄ BOARD SHOWS HOW PAPERBOARD AND CONFECTIONERY MAKE AN UNBEATABLE PACKAGE AT PROSWEETS 2015

Metsä Board, Europe’s leading producer of fresh forest fibre cartonboards and the world’s leading manufacturer of coated white-top kraftliners, displayed its extensive range of lightweight paperboards for confectionery packaging at ProSweets 2015, and provided details about the many advantages of these familiar materials.

One of Metsä Board paperboard’s most significant benefits for the confectionery industry is its ability to offer excellent safety levels. With traceability and food safety crucial to market success, Metsä Board uses only fresh forest fibres from sustainably managed northern forests in its products. The origin of all its fibres and other raw materials can be traced and used safe in the knowledge they are free from contaminants.

Nina Happonen, Commercial Director for Food & Beverages at Metsä Board, explains: “Product safety is vital, as a brand’s reputation can be ruined in an instant on, for example, social media. The fresh fibres in our boards are naturally clean, so safe for food packaging without requiring a barrier, which may make recycling challenging.”

“However, a board’s sensory properties are also important as chocolate must taste like chocolate and not the package. Ultimately, it is clear that today’s consumers prefer the familiarity and sustainability of paperboard.”

Fresh forest fibres are a renewable, recyclable and biodegradable raw material. They enable boards to be created that are both lightweight and strong. By light weighting, Metsä Board’s boards offer the same properties of stiffness and bulk as heavier conventional grades but in lower substances, which means they can be specified for confectionery packaging without losing a quality feel.

Metsä Board’s cartonboards include grades designed specifically for chocolate or confectionery such as Carta Solida and Carta Integra, while new Carta Dedica has been developed especially for food-on-the-go. Carta Elega, Chromolux, Simcote cartonboards and the Kemiart and Modo Northern Light ranges of linerboards add to Metsä Board’s extensive portfolio of boards all suitable for confectionery use.

Metsä Board also presented its Packaging Services dedicated to enhancing global brand value and success by delivering sustainable, secure and innovative packaging solutions. Metsä Board Packaging Services can provide everything from coordination of the initial brief, through research, testing, and both structural and graphical design.
