The new high-end product line of Calzados Trueno, the Spanish producer of high-quality safety footwear, needed to be supported by packaging and table-top display units that could communicate the message of the advanced, avant-garde products and design.
The environmental aspects in production, warehousing, transportation and at disposal were also deemed important. The shoes weigh over two kilograms a pair, which requires strength and durability from both the package and the display.
Cartonajes Santorroman, the corrugated packaging supplier for Trueno, was able to reach excellent results by using Kemiart Graph as the surface liner and employing innovative structural design.
The shoe box is a one-piece structure without any need for clamps or glue: when folded, the sheet forms a three-panel side wall with the strength to hold a pile of boxes. The display, easy to assemble and with a very low unit cost compared to metal or plastic ones, is also light enough to be sent cost-effectively by post to retailers.
A challenging job brilliantly executed
Both the shoe package and the display are big, challenging printing jobs. The demanding print design combines solid and screen printed black areas. The streaked aluminium surface effect printed across the flute direction further increased the difficulty of the printing.
The shoe box and the display reproduce the brand image of Trueno brilliantly and differentiate the company’s safety footwear from the global competition. They both also require less space during the transportation and warehousing and are easy to disassemble and recycle.
Calzados Trueno and Cartonajes Santorroman were recognised for the quality and ingenuity of the shoe package and the table display with the 2009 Kemiart Forerunner prize.
