​Choice of material reflecting the brand

When developing the award-winning Arctic Blue Gin, the objective was to capture the unique Arctic natural environment in the taste. Just as the ingredients are carefully selected for the beverage, the material of the Arctic Blue Gin package was chosen to reflect the quality and values of the brand.

 

“Right from the very start, our goal was to create the best gin in the world, using the unique, premium-quality ingredients from Finnish nature,” commented Mikko Spoof, Brand Director for Arctic Blue Gin. Therefore, Metsä Board was a natural choice for the Arctic Blue Gin to make sure the brand’s vision was also incorporated into the packaging.

 

Made from fresh fibres traceably sourced from sustainably managed northern forests, MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright 350 g/m2 successfully met the demands set on the packaging. The lightweight material also provides high consistency and whiteness, ensuring excellent printability and use of special effects.


Inspiring packaging driving sales

To highlight the natural identity of the brand, the design team focused on bringing pure and natural elements from the Nordic forests into the graphics and the surface of the packaging.

 

Ilkka Harju, Metsä Board’s Packaging Services Director, EMEA explains: “The Arctic Blue Gin package was printed on the uncoated side of the paperboard to give a pure, natural feel. In addition, some very demanding finishing techniques were used on the surface to create a 3D illusion around the printed rock scenery and multilayer embossing providing a rock-like haptic feeling. Foiling was also used to give a distinct contrast with the natural paperboard surface. Then as a final touch, packaging was printed inside the package to create maximum impact when the consumer unboxes the bottle.”

 

Packaging design plays a key role in consumers’ purchasing decisions. The more appealing the packaging of the product is from the other brands, the more likely it will catch the attention of a potential buyer.
