Responsible packaging for food service

Effective packaging is essential for food on the go – for handling, protection, food safety, insulation as well as branding and good consumer experience.

Metsä Board’s paperboards for on the go applications are based on renewable fresh fibres. Fresh fibre paperboard is a safe, sustainable and lightweight packaging material for food service.

Versatile paperboard can be combined with a functional barrier against moisture and water and, to a certain extent, grease. It also performs well in printing and converting.

Please note, not all paperboards may be suitable for the suggested end use in every country, depending on differing food contact legislation. Purchasers are advised to familiarise themselves with the applicable laws and regulations, as well as with the suitability of the paperboard for the intended end use. More information on global food contact compliance is available from Metsä Board.

Sustainability based on fresh fibre

Made under one roof

Metsä Board’s paperboard production for the expanding global food service market has been concentrated at our Husum mill in Sweden, with recent investments in capacity and technology. Our Husum site is one of the biggest integrated sites in Europe. We source wood close to the mill and produce pulp, board and extrusion-coated board at the same facility, with an excellent location near the deep sea harbour. This enables us to minimise transport and improve the efficiency, quality consistency and sustainability of the supply chain, which is important to us and our customers.

The new state-of-the-art extrusion coating line, incorporating the latest technology, has an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes. At the same site Metsä Board operates a 270,000 tonnes high quality linerboard machine and Europe’s most modern folding boxboard machine, which started production at the beginning of 2016 with a yearly capacity of 400,000 tonnes.
